Monday 30th May 2011

It was a stunning day for Powell's Picks on Saturday with both Activate and Ferdoos winning at starting prices of 2/1 and 3/1 respectively. Desert Law came 2nd by a neck at 4/1 and ran on very well. Today's selections are from across meetings at Leicester, Redcar and Carlisle and will hopefully make a handy e/w treble.

Carlisle 2:55
HANSOMIS
11/2 at Bet365, StanJames and William Hill
This Irish 7 year old has the ability to do well this afternoon against a relatively strong field. Hansomis likes Carlisle and has shown quality over 6f. With two good runs here previously, Hansomis was 2nd here last week being beaten by Pelmanism, however I expect that to be reversed today. Pelmanism will be well backed this afternoon but the drying ground will not suit and there are other horses with favourable handicaps. Hansomis is a good bet each way here and has every chance of winning it.

Leicester 5.00
UPPERCUT
8/1 at various bookies
Uppercut is improving and respected, and has a stunning e/w chance at Leicester. Sir Micheal Stoute's horse Chilled is dangerous and is likely to go off favourite but Uppercut should run it close at the post. The 3 year old beat Stage Attraction when 4th at Warwick over 7f and then followed that up with a good run over the same course and distance in May, finishing second. The ground will suit Uppercut who is in good form and has the ability to do well here.

Redcar 5.20
SIMPLE JIM
13/8 at various bookies
If there is one horse you are backing today it has to be Simple Jim. If you are backing it then back big because I can't see the 7 year old being beaten here. He won this race last year off a mark 2lbs higher than he is today and has three wins over this course and distance on fast ground. David O'Meara's yard is on cracking form and jockey Silvestre De Sousa has a 38% strike rate on Simple Jim. Everything points to a win at Redcar this afternoon. The trip, course and ground all suit, he has a good handicap and both yard and jockey are on form. I can't see anything other than a win for Simple Jim.
